Jimpsie Ayres
It feels good to be in Memphis after a long absence! I love this city,
and the Memphis art community. Having lived in Florida and California,
I have to say my hometown, Memphis, is the place where I most feel supported,
upheld, and secure.
I really didn't find my 'voice' until I returned to Memphis ten years
ago, and I'm sure that has something to do with my happiness here. Since
then, I thank God every day that I go into my studio to paint. I just
love sliding color around with a brush! Painting is one of the great
joys of my life, and I'm always grateful to be able to create without
anxiety.
One of the things I enjoy most about art--and the exhibition of art-is
the connection between artist, viewer, and work. I'm always inspired
and energized by the array of different perspectives people bring to
any creative experience.
